Horrible business practice

I purchased this electronic version of Tarascons Pharmacopoeia just over a year ago but havent chosen to update my subscription as the 1 year old information was sufficient at this time. However, this new app locks me out and does not allow me to access any of the content I purchased last year. It was bad enough having to deal with a reminder that had to be dismissed every time I opened the app...
If I purchased the print version of this book, would the publisher stop by my home after a year and steal my purchased book because there is a new version with updated content?
Steer clear of this ridiculous scheme!
